GOP Pushes to Award Trump Congressional Gold Medal

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) and seven other Republican lawmakers have introduced a resolution to award former President Donald Trump the Congressional Gold Medal, as reported by Politico. This prestigious award has previously been given to notable figures such as the Dalai Lama, the Tuskegee Airmen, and golfer Jack Nicklaus.

Joining Luna in this initiative are GOP Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) and Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), Randy Weber (R-Texas), Bob Good (R-Va.), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), and Mike Waltz (R-Fla.). The resolution was presented on Tuesday while Trump is in New York dealing with a criminal case related to hush money payments to former adult actress Stormy Daniels.

The resolution highlights several of Trump’s achievements, including a claim that “the greatest of President Trump’s foreign policy achievements was that no wars were started while he was in office.” The offices of Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise did not provide immediate comments on the proposal.
