Arizona Senator Seeks To Steal Choice of State’s Presidential Winner From Voters

Arizona State Senator Anthony Kern (R) Kern for Congress

Arizona State Senator Anthony Kern (R), who is under investigation for his role as a fake elector in the 2020 presidential election, has introduced a controversial resolution that could significantly alter the state’s electoral process, according to Arizona Central. Senate Concurrent Resolution 1014, as proposed by Kern, suggests that the state legislature, rather than voters, should have the authority to appoint presidential electors.

This initiative, if enacted, would represent a radical departure from Arizona’s current democratic process. Presently, electoral college voters in Arizona are chosen from the political party of the presidential candidate who wins the state’s popular vote. Kern’s resolution, however, implies legislative control over this process, potentially overriding the popular vote.

Kern’s political career has been marred by several contentious incidents. Notably, he was involved in the false certification of electoral college votes in 2020 and was present at the U.S. Capitol during the January 6, 2021, insurrection. He has also been listed on the “Brady List” due to his termination from a law enforcement role for dishonest behavior.

The irony of Kern’s resolution is that, if it were to pass the Senate and the House, it might end up being decided by Arizona voters through a ballot. This presents a paradox where a measure aimed at diminishing voter influence could ultimately be determined by those very voters.
