Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) went on the attack against House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Wednesday after he pulled his picks for Jan. 6 select committee and said Republicans would conduct their own investigation into the insurrection.
McCarthy’s move came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rejected two of his recommendations — Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Jim Banks (R-IN).
Cheney expressed agreement with Pelosi’s decision and suggested that McCarthy is trying to cover up what transpired regarding the attack on the Capitol.
“The rhetoric we have heard from the minority leader is disingenuous,” she told reporters, according to a clip shared by Forbes’ Andrew Solender.
Cheney said there must be an investigation into the attack that is “sober,” “serious,” and “nonpartisan,” and one that “gets to the facts wherever they might lead.”
“At every opportunity, the minority leader has attempted to prevent the American people from understanding what happened,” she said, before explaining why she agreed with Pelosi’s stance on Jordan and Banks.
