Insurrectionist Dubbed “Helmet Boy” Freaks Out In Court

The Capitol insurrectionist known as “helmet boy” for using a riot helmet to smash a window outside the Speaker’s Lobby on Jan. 6 went berserk during a Wednesday court hearing, insisting on representing himself and mandating that prosecutors offer him a deal.

NBC4 Washington’s Scott MacFarlane covered the hearing live in a Twitter thread, detailing Zachary Alam’s meltdown in real time.

Alam was caught on video during the insurrection harassing Capitol police officers and breaking the window that fellow rioter Ashli Babbitt would later attempt to climb through, resulting in her fatal shooting by police.
