The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) presented former President Donald Trump with its first-ever Champion for Freedom Award during the same weekend that Trump railed against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Trump lashed out at a number of his political enemies during his speech at the Republican National Committee’s spring donor retreat in Florida over the weekend, The New York Times reported, but he reserved a special berating for McConnell.
He saved much of his vitriol for Senator Mitch McConnell, the minority leader, calling him a “dumb son of a bitch” and a “stone cold loser,’’ according to the attendee. A “real leader,” he said, would never have accepted the results of that election.
Still, the NRSC presented Trump with an award to honor “conservative leaders who have worked tirelessly to create good jobs, protect the values that make our country great, and stop the Democrats’ socialist agenda.”
