Peter Schorsch, the publisher of FloridaPolitics.com, reported Wednesday that multiple sources close to Halsey Beshears, the former Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) under Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), say he is the “third Florida Republican” caught up Rep. Matt Gaetz’s sex trafficking scandal.
Those sources have said Beshears recently received a “target letter” from federal investigators, Schorsch wrote.
Schorsch added in another tweet that Beshears “resigned in January citing health reasons, which included contracting the coronavirus.”
However, “increasingly, sources familiar with his exit process believe that his legal troubles factored in the decision,” Schorsch continued.
In his letter of resignation to the governor, Beshears wrote that he was stepping down due to “personal health reasons.”
Florida Politics previously reported that prior to his 2018 appointment to lead the DBPR, “Beshears served in the Florida House. He sponsored and passed legislation in policy areas ranging from transportation to building construction and more.”
