Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called universities and colleges “leftist training camps” in a recent op-ed, according to the Colorado Times Recorder.
Writing for Glenn Beck’s far-right website The Blaze, Boebert attacked Congressional Democrats’ proposed update to federal voting laws, called the For The People Act (H.R. 1), which among other reforms would implement many of Colorado’s “gold standard” election laws across the country.
Despite having handily won an election conducted under these laws, Boebert accuses Democrats of trying to rig the system, including attempting “to use taxpayer dollars to establish aggressive voter recruitment programs at leftist training camps — otherwise known as colleges and universities.” Boebert’s office did not respond to a request for additional comment.
Colorado’s Third Congressional District contains five schools offering four-year degrees: Colorado Mesa University, Western Colorado University, Colorado State University Pueblo, Fort Lewis College and Adams State University. The district is also home to numerous regional campuses for junior and community colleges.
The Times Recorder noted that “CMU President Tim Foster is a prominent Republican, having served in the state legislature as House Majority Leader in the 90s before joining former Governor Bill Owens’ cabinet as the head of the Department of Higher Education.”
Boebert herself never attended college or university, and obtained her GED last year.
