President Donald Trump’s eldest son took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon calling on his father to go to “total war” over the election, once again asserting baselessly that massive fraud pervaded the presidential contest.
“The best thing for America’s future is for @realDonaldTrump to go to total war over this election to expose all of the fraud, cheating, dead/no longer in state voters, that has been going on for far too long,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote.
He added: “It’s time to clean up this mess & stop looking like a banana republic!”
Twitter flagged the post as potentially misleading.
HuffPost noted that reactions to Trump Jr.’s tweet were rife with snark:
The Trump team, and President Donald Trump in particular, has claimed for months that the election would be fraudulent, due in large part to a massive increase in mail-in voting.
Post-Election Day, they have insisted that elections in key battleground states were rigged. The Trump campaign and Republican Party have filed several lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona and Nevada over issues ranging from alleged mail-in voter fraud to Sharpie use on ballots to mail-in ballot extensions.
On social media and in television appearances, Trump and his allies continue to claim malfeasance in various jurisdictions, despite offering no solid evidence to support the allegations.
